Science Fiction from Poland

This list is a part of The World Science Fiction List.  It shows Polish artists, books, films, etc. If you have any suggestion what should be included, feel free to comment. I hope that together we will be able to make a (more or less) complete list.

There can be items on list that are in Polish only, that were translated into English or any other language.

Science Fiction Writers/Books from Poland

  • Stanisław Lem (1921 – 2006) – the best known Polish science fiction writer in the world. His books were translated to over 40 languages. I have reviewed following stories: Solaris, Kongres Futurologiczny (The Futurological Congress) and Maska (The Mask).
  • Janusz Zajdel (1938 – 1985) – one of the best known Polish science fiction writers, writing also social science fiction and dystopia stories. His books were translated into several European languages, into Esperanto but only one short story into English. There is a science fiction & fantasy fandom award named after him: Janusz A. Zajdel Award.

Science Fiction Films from Poland

  • Seksmisja (Sexmission) – 1983 science fiction comedy directed by Juliusz Machulski. A cult film, quoted also by those who aren’t into science fiction. Two main characters (male) are hibernated and wake up in the future world without men.
