Fantastic World Stories

I have decided to make my own project for reading books from each country.

It won’t be a book, but a story, which means a legend, comic etc. The stories must have fantastical element to it, like magic, paranormal creatures, sf elements etc. And moreover, the stories must be newly read.

The countries list is a modified UN country list, including Palestine, Taiwan, Hong Kong and Kosovo. In total 196 countries/regions.

Do you have any suggestions?

      1. Looking through my list, I really have been remarkably realist in my fiction choices! I would definitely recommend trying some Jose Saramago for Portugal. The one I read was Death with Interruptions. The Book of Chameleons by Jose Eduardo Agualusa is probably more on the magical realism side. I don’t know whether that fits what you are looking for or not.

        1. I read Agualusa’s My Father’s Wives (which was good!) for another challenge. Well, magical realism is a bit too realistic, I’d think. But the book sounds interesting. 🙂 Likewise, I’d try to read Saramago.
If you’d like to be more on the other side: I see you have no France covered yet. The Ant trilogy by Werber is an sf I’d like to read. Czech Republic’s Josef Nesvadba was great with psychology&machines sf. Poland – Lem, of course. 😉

          1. Thanks for the suggestions. I’ll definitely be reading Lem. I’ve also got The Day Lasts More Than a Hundred Years by Chingiz Aitmatov on my to-read list. Have you read that one?
