Around the World: a to Z February 2015

Welcome to the second month of literature from around the world challenge. In January, we (could) read books from authors coming from countries named on A to C (in their own languages). That meant Canada, New Zealand, India or six other countries. This time it’s D and E.

If you’re a Polish reader, please join us at Różne Czytanie blog: od A do Z.

The rules are simple, choose at least 1 country, and 1 book by a writer from that country. These countries are:

  • الإمارات العربيّة المتّحدة – Dawlat al-ʾImārāt al-ʿArabiyyah al-Muttaḥidah (UAE)
  • Deutschland (Germany)
  • འབྲུག་ཡུལ – Druk Yul (Bhutan)
  • Eesti (Estonia)
  • Éire (Ireland)
  • Ελλάδα – Elláda (Greece)

Sorry, Estonian, Irish and Greek suggestion will be tomorrow.

Do you have any suggestions on what to read? What will you read? Please post the titles in the comments.

  1. For Bhutan, I’d recommend The Circle of Karma by Kunzang Choden. It’s a novel about an illiterate woman from a small village who ventures out into the wider world and it is full of detail about traditional Bhutanese life.

    1. Thanks for the suggestion, maybe somebody can read that.
We have translated in Poland book written by Her Majesty the Queen Mother Ashi Dorji Wangmo Wangchuck but my library doesn’t have it. I plan to read the children stories since it’s available online for free.
